About our school

Swarthmore Friends Meetinghouse

Swarthmore Friends Nursery School is a small private preschool under the care of Swarthmore Friends Meeting. Our school year runs from mid-September to the end of May, with school breaks similar to the local school district, the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District.

PLAY

Play is an integral tool within our school. Children learn through play, developing cognitive skills, physical abilities, new vocabulary, social skills, and literacy skills, as well as a strong sense of self, empathy for others, and nonviolent conflict resolution.

ACTIVITIES

Included in our school activities are:

  • Indoor free play

  • Music

  • Stories and language

  • Creative movement

  • Science (small group activities relating to the natural sciences)

  • Outdoor play (on a safe playground)

  • Drawing, painting and other artistic endeavors

  • Walks in beautiful Scott Arboretum on the Swarthmore College campus (where we are located)

Each day includes refreshment time and opportunities for sharing, decision-making and problem-solving during both unstructured and structured activity time.
